Toyota 2JZ-GTE 3.2L Billet EN40B 91mm Stroker Crankshaft

The Toyota 2JZ-GTE engine in factory form features an 86 mm bore and 86 mm stroke, producing a displacement of 2997 cc.

By upgrading to the Spool 91 mm stroker crankshaft while retaining standard-length conrods and using custom pistons, engine capacity is increased significantly:

  • 86.6 mm bore + 91 mm stroke = 3285 cc (↑ 288 cc)

  • 87.1 mm bore + 91 mm stroke = 3362 cc (↑ 365 cc)

This increase in cubic capacity delivers substantial gains in torque and drivability, particularly in the low-to-mid RPM range.

Why EN40B?

The Spool EN40B 2JZ stroker crankshaft is designed for extreme power, sustained high RPM, and long-term durability in competition and high-horsepower street builds.

EN40B is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, traditionally used in aerospace and motorsport applications where fatigue resistance and core strength are critical. When combined with nitriding, EN40B offers exceptional surface hardness without compromising core toughness.

This makes it an ideal material for engines that see:

  • Very high cylinder pressures

  • Sustained high RPM

  • Drag, roll racing, circuit, and extreme street use

True Billet Construction

The Spool EN40B 2JZ stroker crankshaft is a true billet crankshaft, fully CNC-machined from solid EN40B core stock.

This is not a cast or forged blank that has been finish-machined.

Manufacturing process:

  1. CNC-machined from EN40B billet core stock

  2. Heat treated

  3. Precision nitrided for surface hardness and wear resistance

  4. Final ground and fully balanced

The result is a crankshaft with exceptional dimensional stability, strength, and fatigue life.

Performance Benefits

With the increased displacement provided by the 91 mm stroke, engines typically experience:

  • Up to 50% gains in torque (application dependent)

  • Stronger low and mid-range power

  • Earlier boost onset

  • Increased peak power potential

  • Improved overall engine response

This makes the EN40B stroker crank particularly well-suited to large-frame turbo applications where spool and torque are critical.

EN40B vs 4340 – Material Comparison

Feature EN40B Billet Steel 4340 Billet Steel
Typical Use Motorsport / Aerospace Performance Automotive
Core Strength Excellent Very Good
Fatigue Resistance Exceptional Very Good
Nitriding Response Outstanding Good
Surface Hardness (Post-Nitride) Very High High
High RPM Stability Excellent Very Good
Extreme Power Applications Preferred Suitable
Cost Higher Lower

Summary:
4340 is an excellent performance crank material and suitable for many builds.
EN40B is the next step up, chosen when maximum durability, fatigue resistance, and long-term reliability under extreme loads are the priority.
