Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU – Mazda RX-8 Series 1 (HT-231401) is a direct plug-in Nexus ECU for supported 2003–2008 manual-transmission RX-8 applications, retaining key factory functions while adding current Haltech engine-management, logging, wideband and motorsport capability.
Supported applications
- Mazda RX-8 Series 1 2003–2008 with 13B-MSP Renesis 6-port engine — supported ADM, USDM, JDM and EUDM applications.
- Mazda RX-8 Series 1 2003–2008 with 13B 4-port engine — JDM applications.
- Manual transmissions only.

- Single-channel onboard wideband control supporting Bosch LSU 4.9 or NTK sensors.

Haltech lists support for RX-8 functions including electronic throttle, alternator control, cruise-control switch, oil-metering pump, SSV, VDI, VFAD, auxiliary-port-valve motor, electric power steering, DSC/traction-control communication, instrument cluster and compatible CAN-based ABS modules.

Throttle / DBW suitability
Factory DBW supported: The Nexus RX-8 plug-in directly supports the factory electronic throttle / drive-by-wire system.

Generic CAN (GCAN) — Current Beta Feature
Haltech identifies this Nexus ECU / display platform as eligible for Generic CAN (GCAN), its user-programmable CAN messaging feature. GCAN is provided at no additional licence cost on eligible Nexus hardware and can also be enabled on existing eligible units through the applicable firmware update.
- Create custom CAN messages for supported third-party devices and systems.
- Useful for OEM dash retention, CAN sensors, steering-wheel / switch controls, ABS data, loggers and other custom CAN integrations.
- Haltech currently specifies support for up to 30 CAN frames and 200 signals.
Important: GCAN is currently released by Haltech as a beta feature. Access requires opting into the applicable beta software / firmware through NSP. Check Haltech's current GCAN release instructions before updating, back up the existing configuration first and verify all connected-device operation after the update.
